How Liposuction Technique Matters for Your Results

In fact, there are several different techniques and methods that you can choose from, and the right one for you will depend on your individual needs and goals. Take a look at some of your options to help you choose the most effective liposuction method for you.

Traditional Liposuction

Traditional, or tumescent, liposuction involves the use of a sterile saline solution to first “loosen” fat cells to make them easier to remove. Next, your plastic surgeon uses a small tube called a cannula to suction excess fat from targeted areas.

While this method can offer long-lasting results, you’ll still need to maintain healthy lifestyle habits after liposuction to keep the same smooth, contoured look.

Liposuction + Tummy Tuck

If you’ve had children or reached a major weight loss goal, you may be a good candidate for a lipo + tummy tuck combo.

If you’re struggling with both stubborn exercise-resistant fat and loose skin or muscle tissue, your plastic surgeon may recommend combining liposuction with a tummy tuck.

During the C.L.A.S.S.® tummy tuck, liposuction is used to address fat, while a drain-less tummy tuck removes and tightens loose skin and muscle tissue in the abdominal area.

Nonsurgical Body Contouring

For some people, nonsurgical body contouring options such as UltraShape® Power and VelaShape™ III can provide the results they’re looking for without requiring downtime. The best candidates for these treatments will have smaller amounts of stubborn fat, loose skin or cellulite that they would like to address.

For more extensive body contouring goals, your plastic surgeon may suggest traditional liposuction or combined liposuction and abdominoplasty instead, or paired with nonsurgical options.
