Q. What Is Nonsurgical Contouring?
A. Nonsurgical body contouring means that you can simply walk in and walk out of your appointment. You will be awake the whole time, and you will not need to take time away from your schedule for recovery. At our Denver, Colorado practice, we offer our patients two different nonsurgical contouring options:
- UltraShape® Power uses cutting-edge ultrasound technology to melt fat cells in the subcutaneous layer.
- VelaShape™ III uses a combination of vacuum, infrared and radiofrequency waves to dissolve fat cells while simultaneously improving skin texture.
Q. Am I a Candidate?
A. Candidates for nonsurgical contouring should be in good overall physical and mental health, and have realistic expectations about their results. Our body contouring options, whether surgical or nonsurgical, are not intended as substitutes for weight loss, so it’s important that you take the time to reach your goal weight before considering your options for fine-tuning your figure. Good candidates for nonsurgical contouring are typically those with less dramatic needs than candidates who elect for surgical contouring options. Additionally, if your busy schedule doesn’t allow you to take the time off required for surgery, you may be a good candidate for nonsurgical contouring.
Q. How Do I Know Which Treatment Is Best for Me?
A. Either UltraShape® Power or VelaShape™ III can produce excellent results in the right candidate. During your consultation, Dr. Campanile can discuss which option might be best for you depending on your treatment area, your goal results and your availability. While UltraShape® Power is typically used around the abdomen, thighs and buttocks, VelaShape™ III is commonly applied to almost any area of the body that requires slimming. You may also want to consider whether cellulite reduction is a priority for you. VelaShape™ III can be an effective reducer in cellulite by stimulating collagen production in the dermis, improving skin texture.
Q. Can I Get Nonsurgical Contouring in Addition to Surgical Procedures?
A. Yes. While the exact nature of combining nonsurgical contouring with your surgery will depend on your specific case, combining surgical and nonsurgical approaches is common among patients whose needs are best met with multiple procedures. Nonsurgical contouring can be included as part of a mommy makeover to help regain your pre-pregnancy figure, while either UltraShape® or VelaShape™ III can be combined with liposuction to further fine-tune your results.
Q. Does Bruising or Swelling Result from Nonsurgical Contouring?
A. Our nonsurgical contouring options are designed to create minimal trauma to the skin and surrounding tissue. Normally, there is no bruising or swelling associated with nonsurgical contouring at our Denver practice. However, each patient experiences these procedures differently. If you are someone who bruises particularly easily, there is a chance that you may have some bruising and/or swelling from your treatment, but it should be minimal and dissipate within a few days.
Q. How Long Does It Take before I Can See the Results?
A. Your nonsurgical contouring results can take anywhere from 2 to 3 months to develop. Most patients see the best results after a series of treatments spaced a couple of weeks apart, although our VelaShape™ III procedure also has an option for a single, longer treatment, depending on your availability. One of the best advantages of nonsurgical contouring is that you can continue to develop your results to your liking. If you are interested in further improving your target area after your results develop, you can always undergo an additional treatment.
