A Customized Approach
The primary difference between the C.L.A.S.S.® technique and a traditional tummy tuck is the incorporation of liposuction. Although standard abdominoplasty removes excess skin and tissue from the belly, the final contour is not always ideal, especially through the upper abdomen. Incorporating liposuction not only improves the results of the surgery, but also enhances both the upper and lower abdomen as well as the flanks. The C.L.A.S.S.® technique addresses multiple concerns simultaneously:
- Both upper and lower abdomen are smoother and flatter
- Excess skin and tissue are removed, and lax muscles tightened
- Belly contours look more natural after surgery compared to the artificially “too flat” look that’s sometimes seen in traditional abdominoplasty from less experienced surgeons
Perhaps one of the most appreciated aspects of the C.L.A.S.S.® technique from the patient’s perspective is that post-surgical drains are not used during recovery.
About the Procedure
The C.L.A.S.S.® technique is a combination approach toward body contouring that incorporates elements of Brazilian, Italian and American techniques plus a few added touches that are unique to Dr. Campanile. The surgery begins with an incision, followed by extensive liposuction throughout the abdomen and flanks, during which the blood supply to the skin flap is meticulously maintained. Next, the abdominal muscles are tightened to create a better profile. Excess skin and tissue are removed as well.
Finally, multiple layers of internal sutures are used to create smaller compartments within the abdominal cavity. This process prevents excessive fluid buildup after surgery that would necessitate surgical drains; this fluid buildup, or seroma, is the primary concern when weighing potential abdominoplasty complications. The C.L.A.S.S.® technique greatly lowers this risk.
Recovery & Results
The C.L.A.S.S.® approach delivers superior, more natural-looking contours than a standard tummy tuck. The special suturing technique reduces skin tension at the incision as well, allowing for a more rapid healing process with less potential for complications.
Immediately after surgery, patients notice some discomfort and soreness, especially when standing fully upright, as this pulls on the abdominal muscles. Over-the-counter medication is often enough to help patients feel more comfortable, although Dr. Campanile can also prescribe something stronger if needed. It’s important to follow all postoperative instructions from Dr. Campanile, and to take it easy, allowing your body the rest it needs for a full and healthy recovery.
You’ll notice an improvement in your body contours right away after your procedure, although swelling may initially disguise your final outcome. Your belly and flanks will have a more flattering shape that still looks natural, better showcasing your muscle tone and overall figure.
